Microsoft has confirmed the release date of its Surface tablet. The Surface tablet will be released on the day of Windows 8 launch on 26th October. Microsoft said “The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices,” The said thing was mentioned in the annual report of Microsoft that was filed with Exchange commission and U.S. Securities.
The news is not a big surprise for everyone, as Microsoft had already justified that the Surface tablet will go on sale with the release of Windows 8 OS. Although, they reassured the release in writing, the Surface tablets will only run Windows RT. Surface tablet with Intel support will be available to buy after 90 days of launch, said by Microsoft. In the annual report, Microsoft has continuously mentioned about the lack and success of Windows 8.
Again, in the last part of the report, Microsoft says Wall Street will closely watch a phrase “may reduce operating margins”. Microsoft has to do anything to fame and sell Surface tablets, if they does not able to achieve success, it will cost them the viability at the times of Android tablets and iPads.
The Surface tablets will be available as two different products. One would be a price friendly, which will run Windows RT on ARM chips and other would be a bit expensive that will run Windows 8 Pro on Intel’s Ivy Bridge Processors.
Pricing of both the tablets will differ as said, but would Microsoft itself suggest something at affordable range as. Microsoft says, “Suggested retail pricing will be announced closer to availability and is expected to be competitive with a comparable ARM tablet or Intel Ultrabook-class PC,” If we go through the statement of Microsoft, then a Windows RT version of Surface tablet would cost around $500 to $600 and Windows 8 version could extend till $1000. Although, final pricing is ought to out.
