Indian Cellular Would Not Promote iPhone 5 – Know The Reason
Exclusive — By Naveen Vaidhya on September 14, 2012 at 9:06 amThe whole world is buzzed with the launch of the iPhone 5 but India is least bothered about the launch of the iPhone 5. When you look worldwide, every cellular has a desire of having their network with the new iPhone 5, but Indian operators says that, it’s better that they don’t sell the iPhone 5 and this will make a better business sense.

Have you ever thought why Indian cellulars have always been least bothered about iPhone 5. This is done because the proposition of the Apple’s business in India is really competitive and looking at the price it will not look as lucrative enough. One of the biggest business operators told “We don’t like their business proposition. They want us to sell a huge number (of the iPhone), which doesn’t make commercial sense.” Not only this, he also added that, they would offer enterprise for iPhone to the regular customers.
If you look for the biggest cellular in India, Airtel, they cell plans for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, but with this they don’t have any talk time package. Whereas, the smaller cellulars that is Aircel and Etisalat have been providing with special offer on iPhone for the customers. Aircel has offered people iPhone with a plan of zero rental and another plan that is money back plan. On this free rental plan, Aircel offers customers with limited free talk time offer and along with this they also offer a free 2G network.
Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Idea Cellular said let’s say it’s not purely that reason. We also have our own schemes for our post-paid business and our own handsets, which we want to promote.”
Another reason for not having this iPhone in India is because people over here can get better and a like smartphone at the cost that starts from Rs. 8, 000. This is the reason, why Indian cellulars don’t have this phone with some plans. Instead, if they come out with better plans and with contract on the new iPhone 5 or other iPhone models then it is obvious that iPhone would also get hype in Indian market too. So what do you really thing about this? Let us know your stand.
