Google Driverless Car – How Does It Work?

Google Driverless car is a Google’s project that contains developing technology for driverless cards. Engineer Sebastian Thrun is presently managing this project. Around 15 engineers are working on this Google Driverless car. In June 2011, Nevada approved the law, concerning the operating of driverless cars in Nevada. Google has been pushing for driverless car laws.

Last month, at IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, Sebastian Thrun revealed the secret behind the Google driverless car. Car’s heart system is the Velodyne 64-beam laser range-finder, which is mounted onto the car’s roof. This device records and scans laser measurements to make 3D model of the world around it, which then connects to high-resolution maps. From this, it makes routes, which prevent obstacles and follow traffic rules.

This car is also well-appointed with radar, GPS, an inertial measurement unit, and other sensors, which keep the vehicle on course and offer it with 360 – degree situational consciousness. Much interestingly, the car is arranged to be highly polite – it will produce to any pedestrian crossing the street it severally follows to road rules and regulations. At the same moment, it can also be violent toward other vehicles, which are not obeying the correct-of-way rules through enabling in the connection to proclaim that it will be turning first.

As per the news, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has approved the license on a red plate to make this quickly recognizable. The plate sorts an infinity symbol along with the number 001. Bruce Breslow the Director of Nevada DMV thinks, “Self-driving cars are the cards of future.” Whereas Alex Padilla, California State Senator claimed “The huge number of vehicle accidents happen because of the human error. Hence, the usage of computers, other systems, and sensors, an independent vehicle is enabling to analyse the driving environment much immediately and operating the vehicle much protectively.
